MH370: Claims wreckage, pilot skeleton found in Philippines
MH370: Skeleton in pilot's chair reported in the PhilippinesThe plane wreckage with the Malaysian flag painted on the side linking it to lost aircraft MH370 has reportedly been found in the Philippines. It began with a claim by a teenager who said he stumbled upon the wreckage while hunting for birds in a valley on Sugbay Island, Tawi-Tawi.
Skeletal remains were reportedly sighted in the pilot’s chair with the seat belt fastened.
The man said it could be part of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 that disappeared in March last year, which was flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 passengers and crew onboard.
He also claimed to have found a dilapidated piece of cloth at the same location which is said to be the Malaysian flag. He had initially wanted to it as a blanket. Malaysian Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai says the report is yet to be verified and urged patience.
On Saturday, Sabah police chief, Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman in a statement had confirmed receiving the police report at the Sandakan police station on Friday leading police to launch an investigation.
The Boeing 777 lost contact with air traffic control about 40 minutes after take-off, bizarrely veered off course over the South China Sea and then dropped off the radar.
The biggest breakthrough in the search came on July 29 when a man on the French island of Reunion found a two-metre long piece of aircraft debris washed up on a beach.
The find sparked a 10-day air and sea search around Reunion Island which proved unsuccessful.
The debris was flown to France for analysis and on September 4, French authorities confirmed it was a flaperon from MH370.
